Microsoft’s Copilot is ending support for the AI assistant’s functionality on all TVs this year.
The company confirmed the decision, first reported by Windows Central, in an update to its support documentation. Copilot will remain available on web, desktop, and mobile platforms.
“Copilot is being retired from TVs and will no longer be available on Samsung and LG TVs on December 1, 2026,” the Microsoft support update said.
An LG notice to customers said: “We would like to inform you that Microsoft has recently decided to end support for Copilot functionality on all TVs, including the Copilot-enabled feature available on our LG TVs. As a result, the Copilot-enabled feature on your TV is no longer available and may stop functioning shortly."
Microsoft Copilot primarily served as an AI-powered tool on Samsung and LG smart TVs that users could chat with, ask questions about what was currently on screen, or get recommendations for TV shows and movies.
The app was installed on LG and Samsung TVs in the last year, causing pushback from many customers online.
Earlier this year, Microsoft introduced a Copilot “super app” that bundled multiple AI capabilities, including chat, agents, and coding into a single interface as part of a push towards positioning Copilot more as a business and productivity tool, and less as a digital companion.
According to recent Ofcom research, only around half of adult social media users (49%) now actively post, share, or comment on social media, whereas more than half (54%) of UK adults now use AI tools. Discover more here.
