VFX giant Cinesite has launched TechX, an internal technology exploration unit to research and develop applications of generative AI for the content creation industry.
TechX will explore the Gen AI landscape to identify, develop, test, and validate creative solutions in collaboration with studios, filmmakers and solution providers.

The unit will operate independently from Cinesite’s active shows, and its infrastructure will be segregated from Cinesite’s production environment.
The team will report to the Group CTO, Michele Sciolette, and its activities will be overseen by a newly formed AI Advisory Council.
The council, which includes creatives and technologists from across the Cinesite group, will provide guidance and support to TechX and advise on the group’s broader AI strategy, with a particular focus on ensuring the development and application of safe, ethical and respectful AI solutions.
“While we fully recognise the many open questions and challenges associated with generative AI technologies, Cinesite will proactively explore how these technologies can be harnessed to serve artists, developers and producers working in the VFX, animation and immersive industries,” said Sciolette.
“With decades of experience creating outstanding visuals of the highest standard, our team is ideally positioned for this exploration, ready to collaborate closely with our existing network of clients, solution providers and other interested parties. In combination with many other key R&D initiatives across our group, TechX represents a critical element in our AI strategy, ensuring our incredible artists have the best possible tools to continue delivering the exceptional work we are known for,” he said.
