Led by Keran Boyd, Accelerator Lead at IBC, a Future Tech Stage session at IBC2025 proposed the development of a cloud-based routing and monitoring system for live media streams, enabling seamless acquisition, transport, and oversight entirely within the cloud. The panel included: Adrian Roe, CEO and Founder at Norsk by id3as; Chris Fellows, Director of Global Solutions Engineering at Zixi; Rostam Kilgour, Manager at First Line Response RTE; and Tom Everest, Head of Architecture and Supply Chain, Broadcast and End-User Technology at BBC.
The session focused on the development and implementation of a master control room in the cloud, highlighting the genesis of the project, the challenges encountered, and the innovations achieved. The primary goal was to demonstrate that all master control functions could be performed entirely in the cloud without relying on on-premise infrastructure. The panellists emphasised the collaboration among multiple vendors to achieve this, working across different cloud environments to ensure interoperability and flexibility. Tom Everest from the BBC and other participants discussed the importance of streamlining workflows and maintaining high production standards while reducing costs and latency.
