Base FX, one of Asia's leading visual effects and animation studios, has opened a London studio as part of a strategic expansion into the European market.
Founded in 2006 by Chris Bremble, Base FX has production studios in Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, and Los Angeles.
The studio has earned three Emmy Awards for its work on HBO's The Pacific, Boardwalk Empire, and Black Sails. It has also received a Bafta Award for Best Visual Effects for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, along with Academy Award nominations for Best Visual Effects for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and The Batman.
The London studio is Base FX's first European facility. Base FX said the move aims to strengthen relationships with its European clients while bringing its expertise in high-end creature and character animation, fluid and dynamic effects, and photo-real 3D matte painting, and set extensions to the UK market.
The new studio will offer a full range of visual effects services, from early concept development through final delivery, and will work in close collaboration with Base FX's established facilities across Asia.
The new facility will be led by industry veterans David Fowler and Alasdair MacCuish. Fowler will serve as Creative Director, while MacCuish will be Managing Director.
Fowler has worked at Moving Picture Company (MPC), Warner Bros, and Digital Domain in London. His credits include the Harry Potter franchise, King Arthur, and Fantastic Beasts. Recently, he served as Visual Effects Supervisor on One Life, Golda, and the upcoming Above the Below, as well as Visual Effects Executive Producer on The Brutalist, Fight or Flight, and Small Axe.
MacCuish has worked at UK facilities such as MPC, Cinesite, and Framestore. He has credits spanning early work on Tomb Raider, Sweeney Todd, and Resident Evil through recent productions including The Brutalist, The Salt Path, and One Life.

Base FX's portfolio includes recent work on Marvel's Ironheart, Ant-Man, and The Wasp: Quantumania.
