BBC Studios Science Unit and Moonraker VFX are partnering to develop and produce immersive content for the expanding location-based entertainment (LBE) market.
The two teams will develop a slate of immersive projects aimed at audiences of all ages, blending scientific insight with cinematic spectacle.
The projects are intended to combine Bristol-based Moonraker’s track record in immersive media, visual effects, and large-format experiences with the BBC Studios Science Unit’s editorial skills spanning science, nature, and the universe.
The LBE sector is projected to exceed $30bn globally by 2030.
BBC Studios Science Unit and Moonraker have worked together previously on several high-profile television series, including Earth and the forthcoming Evolution (w/t). Moonraker’s immersive experience credits include The Dr Who Experience, SeaWorld Florida’s Flying Theatre and Timeless Flight Hong Kong.
Andrew Cohen, Head of BBC Studios Science, said: “By combining Moonraker’s creative and innovative technology with our world-class storytelling, we will be exploring bold new ways to captivate and connect with global audiences in the immersive space – delivering experiences that will be truly awe-inspiring.”
“We’ve spent a decade pushing the boundaries of immersive storytelling,” said Jon Grafton, Managing Director of Moonraker VFX. “Partnering with BBC Studios Science Unit allows us to elevate that ambition further, bringing the Science Unit’s extraordinary stories into fully realised multi-sensory worlds for audiences everywhere.”
