Baroness Shriti Vadera has been appointed as the new Co-Chair of the Creative Industries Council, the forum that brings together the UK government and the creative industries.
Vadera is Chair of the Royal Shakespeare Company and Prudential and is Co-Chair of the World Bank Private Sector Investment Lab.
Vadera was appointed to the role by the Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy. She will work alongside industry Co-Chair Sir Peter Bazalgette who will extend his term until summer 2025, before stepping down and being succeeded by Vadera.
Vadera and Bazalgette will lead a new taskforce - The Creative Industries Sector Plan Taskforce – which will have a specific focus on developing plans for the growth of the sector under the government’s Industrial Strategy. It will draw on the membership of the Creative Industries Council, along with additional expert contributors, who will be announced in due course.
A Sector Plan will be published in Spring 2025, setting out new policies and government interventions.
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said: “The Council is an invaluable partnership between government and industry. Baroness Vadera will bring a wealth of experience in business and the arts to the role. Under her leadership, I look forward to a refreshed role of the council, focussed on delivering economic growth, jobs and opportunities for the British people.
“I will work with Shriti and Sir Peter over the coming months to develop our plans to deliver more jobs and growth in our creative industries, and more opportunities for young people to contribute to our national story.”
