Spanish football league LaLiga has agreed a new set of domestic media contracts for more than €5.25bn, with Telefónica and DAZN retaining rights from 2027 to 2032.
The €5.25bn deals represent a 6% increase on LaLiga’s current contracts.
This means LaLiga will earn more than €1bn per season from its domestic rights, making it the third football league to do so behind the Premier League and the Bundesliga.
In comparison, the English Premier League’s domestic rights exceed €2bn per season.
The league also revealed that its total rights package is worth €6.14bn, taking into account its second-tier division, as well as rights to highlights. This represents a 9% rise on the current cycle.
The announcement came shortly after BBC Sport secured a new multi-year digital rights agreement for its social and digital platforms that will start immediately.
Telecoms giant Telefonica, which operates the Movistar Plus+ pay-TV service, and sports streaming service DAZN, will again each split five matches per match week from the LaLiga competition. Likewise, both broadcasters will each receive rights to one of the two annual El Clásico derby meetings and an equal number of first-choice picks throughout the season.
“At a time when many leagues are losing value, LaLiga’s continued growth and achievement of record highs is especially significant,” said Javier Tebas, President of LaLiga.
“This result reflects the strength of our product and the confidence of the operators, driven largely by our determined fight against piracy, which has allowed us to increase the number of operators’ users, and by the clubs’ efforts in the continuous improvement of audiovisual content, offering the best possible experience to the fans.”
