EBU members launch Security4Media association

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and several of its members have created Security4Media, a non-profit association for media organisations and technology vendors dedicated to reducing cyber risks and supporting trust in media.

Investigations by EBU expert groups have shown that one third of media systems studied have significant security vulnerabilities. The new Security4Media association was created to help the industry meet these and other security challenges.

Security4Media aims to support the media industry in reaching similar levels of security maturity as modern office IT systems, by identifying vulnerabilities in media systems and solutions, streamlining the vulnerability management process with vendors, and speeding up remediation.

It will also provide to its members a network to share and disseminate threat intelligence and early warnings, such as about zero day exploits and new vulnerabilities.

A set of Security4Media labels has also been created, which will be given to participating media organizations and vendors that are actively working to improve their and their products’ cybersecurity.

The association was formally established on September 4 when the association’s first general assembly was held by founding members EBU, ORF (Austria), ARD (Germany), Swedish Radio, SWISS TXT, RTS (Serbia) and NRK (Norway).
