Prime Video orders three animated series from GenAI Creators’ Fund

Amazon MGM Studios and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have revealed a GenAI Creators' Fund and its first greenlit projects for Prime Video.

The fund has been set up to provide financing and access to AI production tools that will help filmmakers, digital creators, and tech startups develop premium TV shows and movies.

Backed by Amazon MGM Studios and AWS, the fund provides grants for proof-of-concepts and shorts from creators who have built audiences on digital platforms but have not had access to professional production tools.

The first three projects to be backed by the fund are: Cupcake & Friends from BuzzFeed Studios; Love, Diana Music Hunters from Albie Hecht, Creator and Chief Content Officer at pocket.watch; and Punky Duck from Creator Jorge R. Gutierrez. All three series will premiere on Prime Video at a future date.

The creators selected by the fund will use Project Nara, Amazon MGM Studios' AI production platform, which was purpose-built on AWS.

Project Nara enables creative teams to generate video, make edits, provide feedback, and track progress in real time, and supports both animation and live-action production workflows. It integrates AI production agents with professional tools such as Maya, Blender, Nuke, Unreal Engine, and Adobe Suite.

“Creative breakthroughs happen when visionary storytellers are given access to transformative tools,” said Albert Cheng, Head of AI Studios, Amazon MGM Studios.

Netflix recently began building a new in-house studio to produce short-form animated content using AI. Discover more here.
