Stéphane Baumier, Chief Technology Officer at French pay-TV giant Canal+, has been named Chairman of Irdeto, the digital platform cybersecurity company.
Based in the Netherlands, Irdeto is part of the Canal+ group and currently protects more than six billion devices worldwide in over 75 countries. The company combats cybercrime in video entertainment and video games, particularly through its Denuvo technology.
Baumier’s appointment comes after Irdeto named Alex Gallant as CEO in June, taking over from Doug Lowther after 11 years.
As Chairman, Baumier is charged with supporting Irdeto’s growth strategy, strengthening technological synergies with the Canal+ group and sustaining the company’s development in its international markets.
Baumier joined Canal+ in 2000. He has spent most of his career abroad, first working in information systems in the Caribbean, Senegal and La Réunion, before helping to establish the K+ subsidiary in Vietnam, where he was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2017.
Between 2013 and 2017, he successively headed the Canal+ Group's subsidiaries in Madagascar, Côte d'Ivoire, and Vietnam, three markets that are heavily exposed to content piracy.
In 2021, he was appointed Transformation Executive Vice President at Canal+ and then Chief Technology Officer in 2022.
