Netint Technologies has announced a partnership with cloud specialist Akamai to integrate Netint’s video processing units (VPUs) into Akamai’s massively distributed cloud platform.
The collaboration kicks off a wave of development between the two companies to improve video processing and encoding in the cloud, Netint said.
Alex Liu, co-founder and COO of Netint, said: “The market is desperate for better performance, efficiency, and scalability. And that requires looking at different approaches to deliver on those requirements. One way to do that is by innovating for power consumption with an order of magnitude improvement on stream density, which we pioneered with our VPUs. The other way is innovating for scale, which nobody does better than Akamai. Combine the two and you create a significant leap forward for the streaming video industry.”
Shawn Michels, VP product management at Akamai, added: “Our customers are looking for ways to deliver better experiences to their customers. Adding Netint’s silicon to our platform, customers who don’t want to build or operate their own hardware can access ASIC technology just as Google does for YouTube and Meta does for Facebook and Instagram.”
